Companies creating a recipe for workplace disaster are those that expect employees to
- sit at their desks all day and produce, produce, produce
- work too many hours without taking adequate breaks or days off
- sit in long meetings with fattening finger foods such as pizza and chips
We have to wonder if these business owners know that they are physically undermining their employees’ ability to perform at their peak.
It’s so simple. Eating the wrong kinds of food and not drinking enough water lowers workers’ ability to sustain energy and to think creatively.
Unfortunately, too many employees skip breakfast, or reach for “heartier” snacks like donuts and bagels. These kinds of high glycemic foods cause a spike in blood glucose causing a feeling of hunger only thirty minutes after consuming them.
High-glycemic, high-calorie foods (processed products containing white flour, white sugar, fat and salt) spike energy but then lead to energy/productivity “crashes.” Not something you want happening around your office.
That is why we are continually designing a workplace menu with low-glycemic, 100-150-calorie snacks, because all calories are not alike, as explained by Mark Bittman in his recent essay for The NY Times. Our menu includes natural and organic healthier options such as yogurt, whole fruit, nuts and cheese. When eaten in frequent intervals, your employees will sustain energy over time.
Our goal is to raise your employees’ creativity, focus, engagement, and overall performance – through the “food fuel” -which helps their brain and their body, which hey, may just lead to enhanced business performance.
